EVERYBODY’S FINE

During the weekend of Chinese New Year, I was available to watch some movies. One of them is EVERYBODY’S FINE.

EVERYBODYS’ FINE, directed by Kirk Jones in 2009, tells a story of a widower, who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife, sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children. He wants to know more about his two boys and two girls and pick up the lost times, but everybody finds excuse not to get back to his house for a reunion. So, he takes his chance for a surprise visit to them one by one.

Every child tells the lonely Frank he/she and their family are fine. With his sensitive observations, it turns out nobody is telling the truth: Rosie is devoiced; Robert is not an orchestra conductor but just a drummer; Amy has a baby without marriage; and Jack died. This confuses him. Is he going to lie to his gone wife everybody is fine?

The movie ends with a joy of whole family during the Christmas, the counterpart of Chinese New Year. I always like such comedy end rather than a tragedy one. But it brings me to deeply think of the why.

It is true (at least for me), we always love to share good news with our parents, and so do they. I think it is better to keep them from worrying about anything of us. Is it right? I used to agree with that, but maybe it’s time to make a little change.

Sharing is a two-way thing. It means not only to share by two party, but to openly share good or bad, happiness or sadness, especially for family sharing.

Wish EVERYBODY’S FINE! Happy new year to all of my friends and their family!

For so long I was out in the cold,
and I taught myself to believe every story I told.
It was fun hanging onto the moon, heading into the sun,
but it’s been too long. Now I wanna come home.
Came so close to the edge of defeat.
But I made my way in the shade, keeping out of the heat.
It was fun shooting out of the stars, looking into the sun,
but it’s been too long. Now I wanna come home.
Home. Where’s there’s nothing but sweet surrender,
to the memories from afar.
Home. To the place where the truth lies waiting,
we remember who we are.
For too long I was out on my own.
Every day I spent trying to prove I could make it alone.
It was fun hanging onto the moon, heading into the sun,
but it’s been too long. Now I wanna come home.
Home.
For so long I was out in the cold,
but I taught myself to believe every story I told.
It was fun hanging onto the moon heading into the sun,
but it’s been too long. Now I wanna come home.
Yeah, it’s been too long, now I want to come home.
Been too long, now I want to come home.
